What type of issues can I help you with?

Fears and Phobias

You can develop a fear of almost anything –  but the most common fear I treat is the fear of flying. I particularly enjoy these sessions as I used to have a HUGE fear of flying myself.  I’d only get on a plane having had a good few glasses of wine and clutching a rosary – neither prevented me from being in a state of panic for the entire flight!  I now fly without fear and, believe me, if I can do that then anybody can overcome whatever it is that has them quaking in their boots – from dogs to wasps, from heights to lifts, from travelling on  train to driving on the motorway.

Social Anxiety

This is far more common than you’d imagine and something I work with on a weekly basis as it comes in many forms.  Many people fear social situations. Some just have mild anxiety at the thought of meeting new people,  going to a party, eating in public – whereas others have their lives completely ruined by  crippling fear and anxiety. Worrying no-on will like them. they will make a fool of themselves etc. This can prevent them embracing hobbies and activities, progressing in their careers- indeed stop them from living life to the full.

Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD)

This form of anxiety is characterised by constant worrying, feeling on edge and being unable to relax. This prevents enjoyment of day-to-day life. It can be focused on nearly anything, for example it may be about physical health, upsetting people, or not being good enough at a particular activity.

Panic Disorder (Attacks)

Panic disorder is characterised by repeated bouts of severe anxiety which is often accompanied by physical symptoms such as sweating, palpitations, rapid breathing, pins and needles. It is not uncommon for individuals experiencing a panic attack to call an ambulance fearing they are having a heart attack. With time, anxiety becomes more continuous, and the fear of having a panic attack becomes embedded.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

This is one of the most debilitating conditions I work with. Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is associated with repetitive unwanted thoughts or behaviours which are often related to issues concerning safety, contamination or harm. The behaviours associated with OCD can seem impossible to stop or control, and can become extremely time consuming. Sufferers feel trapped in a circle of behaviours that they simply can’t seem to break free from.

“Performance” Anxiety

This covers any type of situation where we have to perform – eg exams, interviews, driving tests, public speaking. Sometimes this fear is linked to other anxiety related conditions already mentioned – whereas some simply have a one off fear of a certain situation.  At certain times of year I have many students on my books – getting very anxious about forthcoming exams or interviews for jobs or University/College places.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Anxiety-inducing situations such as family problems, work stress, exams, etc, may trigger symptoms of IBS in some people. Being anxious may make it difficult to control the symptoms.

Symptoms of IBS can be alleviated or reduced if the stress and anxiety levels are reduced.
My successful and popular IBS programme is the only treatment I offer that runs over a prescribed number of sessions. It consists of 6 sessions over a 12 week period. Please contact me for further details – don’t forget I offer a 30 min free telephone consultation.
